Questions

Short answers about the board. For the longer version, see how the countdown works.

How many days are left in the year?
The board on the home page shows the exact number of days, hours, minutes and seconds left until midnight on 1 January in the selected time zone, updated every second. Days are whole 24-hour periods; the hours, minutes and seconds are the remainder.
Which time zone celebrates New Year first?
Kiritimati in the Line Islands (Pacific/Kiritimati, UTC+14) reaches midnight first. American Samoa (Pacific/Pago Pago, UTC−11) is among the last, 25 hours later.
Why does the countdown show one hour more than a calendar count?
In zones that turn their clocks back in autumn, one hour is added between now and New Year. From 1 October, New York has 92 days and 1 hour left, while UTC has 92 days and 0 hours. The board shows the true time remaining, not a calendar approximation.
Does the countdown stay accurate if the tab is in the background?
Yes. Every tick is derived from the device clock, and the board re-reads the clock when the tab becomes visible or the device wakes, so the first frame you see is already correct.
Does this page track me or ask for my location?
No. The time zone comes from the browser's own setting via the Intl API, with no location permission. The page sets no cookies and stores nothing. Visits are counted in aggregate by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and no fingerprinting.
